Staff Accountant ( Full time/ Intern)

A Private Equity backed start-up out-sourcing firm, based in Manhattan, servicing the investor reporting and other reporting needs of US and Latin American based Private Equity, Venture Capital and Buyout investment advisory firms.

The candidate should have exceptional learning skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, positive attitude, and the ability to follow directions and multitask.

Staff Accountant will report directly to Senior Accountant or above and will be responsible for providing accounting services including preparation and processing of transaction and financial statements.

 

Responsibilities

Duties will include working on projects and day-to day operations in the following areas:

  • Perform bank reconciliations, process journal entries, maintain general ledger, and initiate payments

  • Prepare work paper files for accuracy and completeness, including capital activity, investment activity, income and expense accruals, valuation adjustments, etc.

  • Follow proper internal procedures and checklists

  • Prepare capital calls and distributions

  • Prepare quarterly management fee calculations

  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements, and footnote disclosures

  • Prepare investor allocation and capital account statements

  • Support the year-end audit process in collaboration with team, clients and auditors

  • Some clerical and administrative office duties

  • Take ownership and respond client/investor queries within 24 hours of receipt

  • Contribute ideas to improve processes to either gain efficiencies or reduce risk

  • Produce ad hoc reports for clients

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, CPA track preferred

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0

  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office with focus on Excel skills

  • Strong ownership of tasks and sense of team work

  • Prior work experience in accounting

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Strong interpersonal, organization, and time management skills

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and act with a sense of urgency
